Film Festivals include such activities as majors (Cannes, Sundance), mini-majors (SXSW, Tribeca), City Festivals (Edinburgh, Palm Springs, Telluride), Genre (Horror films at Sitges), and Mom and Pop (Human Rights or LGBT, Gay Rights).
The Venice International Film Festival is held “to raise awareness and promote the various aspects of international cinema in all its forms: as art, entertainment and as an industry, in a spirit of freedom and dialogue. The Festival also organizes retrospectives and tributes to major figures as a contribution towards a better understanding of the history of cinema.” It is in its 72nd year, and the festival grows and is more spectacular each year.
