Luxury Yacht Charter: Monokinis Set Trend for Summer Luxury Yachting Swimwear

Posted on

BEST SWIMSUIT FOR THE MED

It seems each spring, one of our most popular blog topics is the year’s trends in swimwear.

Our readers hope to learn about the newest Feadship yacht charter vessel to launch.  You will need to wait a few days while we help the ladies get a jump on this summer’s hottest swimsuit fashions.

EDITOR NOTE

Editor’s note – the trend toward one-piece swimsuits that we saw in 2012 is continuing to grow as stylish celebrities, from full-figured girls like  Beyonce to the ultra-slim Taylor Swift, are rocking one-piece bathing suits known as “maillots.”  With so many A-listers going with one-piece suits, department stores and boutiques are stocking more monokinis and fewer bikinis.  The New York Post reports one-piece swimsuit sales are up around 20 percent in local New York shops.

SEASONAL FAVORITES

In a salute to the maillot trend, here are our 2013 seasonal favorites.

NORMA KAMALI

NORMA KAMALI Vogue Lycra Collection (from $155 at Sacks Fifth Avenue)
We’ve grown accustomed to seeing photos of Beyonce onboard Caribbean yacht charter vessels wearing casual daywear; but you can’t stay onboard all day, especially when the warm waters of St Barts are calling.  Here’s Beyonce in a stylish Norma Kamali one piece:

The lingerie company brings us monokinis that play it cool – not too bare and not too spare. The sequin one-piece lets you take the plunge in this daring little black suit. Shimmery sequins add dazzle to the curve-loving silhouette. Designed in luxe Italian fabric for a silky-soft feel. The Hot New Trends in Superyacht Fashion 2021

HAUTE COUTURE IS OUT — URBAN IS IN

The Winter/Fall superyacht charter season has arrived. Fortunately, most island destinations have lifted their travel bans.  The luxury superyacht charter fleet is making its way to the Bahamas and the Caribbean.  Indeed, everyone’s favorite rendezvous point, St Barts, is ready for business.  Every hotel, beach club, and resort (except for one) is reopened.  The harbor’s annual superyacht fireworks display on New Year’s Eve promises to be bigger and better than ever.  Yachting fashion trends abound.

So what will well-traveled women be wearing on their yachts this season?  Here’s a clue:  Look for traditional yacht club attire to give way to “Urban resort wear.”

That’s the buzz on the docks as 2020 winds down, and “yachties” start planning their Winter/Fall escapes.

HOW WE ARRIVED AT WANDERLUST

Certainly, we’ve all seen it.  Covid-19 travel restrictions, lockdowns, and working from home have created a fashion, “new normal.”  Significantly, couture and business attire have been cast aside.  Who needs to dress up for a Zoom meeting when casual wear will do?  Blouses, blazers, heck – even resort-casual clothing now feels restrictive and confining.

We’re yearning for freedom…for the opportunity to once again get out and explore.

THE TREND

Look for statement pieces to reflect the fusion of workwear and leisurewear – all inspired by warm-weather destinations.  The islands offer warm waters and gentle breezes year-round.  Fall collections will integrate lightweight and breathable materials. Denim, cotton, and poplin will lead the way. Of course, some synthetics will remain – to add a bit of stretch where needed.  Still, natural, sustainably-sourced materials will be front and center.

Simply put, Urbanwear is effortless and empowering.

Get your passports ready, ladies – the islands and the hottest clothing trends are calling your name…

TAKE A LOOK

Here are three examples of this season’s hottest yacht fashions, selected by the fashionistas at 1-800 Yacht Charters.

CULOTTES & SLEEVELESS TOPS

Perfect for socializing on the sundeck of your yacht.  Tuck in the top and you’re ready for dinner ashore…

She is carrying a beige flat tote bag with a cat drawing on it in her right hand, and she has nothing in her left hand. There is a rattan chair with white cushion on her left side, and there is a wooden table on her right side. There are 2 books on the table, as well as a bud vase with a single thistle-like grey flower stem in it. There is a beige wall behind her. There are paintings propped against the wall on the floor on her right side.

TROPICAL HALTER TOPS OVER JEANS

Looking to do a little duty-free shipping along the boardwalk in Philipsburg, St Maarten?  This fresh, island look defines today’s modern yachtswoman.

NAUTICAL T-SHIRTS & SIDE POCKET SHORTS

You’ve got this, girl! Stay cool and wow the crew as you climb into your yacht’s tender.  It’s a short boat ride from your superyacht to the shoreline in Gustavia, St Barts for a beach picnic and barbeque.

She is wearing white flat sandals. She is holding a white bowler hat with black band in her right hand. Her left hand is on her left hip. She is looking toward the left side of the photograph. There is a rattan chair with white cushion on it beside her on her right side, and a small wooden table on her left side. The table has 2 bud vases on it with flower stems and 1 grey thistle-like flower in each.

What to Pack for a Sailboat Vacation

Posted on

Person in horizontal blue and white striped shirt. He is holding a duffle bag. The bag is navy blue with a yellow vertical stripe.

PLAN AND PACK

Yikes! What to pack?  In just over three weeks, you leave on a week-long Bahama yacht charter vacation. You choose a sleek, performance, basic sailing yacht with crew.  Your menu provided to your yacht through your charter broker, and your crew is ready to welcome you aboard.  Seriously, what do you pack?

WHAT TO BRING?

Most importantly, remember that you need to pack in soft-sided luggage (duffel bag) since space is at a premium on sail boat charters.

Since you’ll be enjoying fun in the sun and a tropical environment, the most important essentials to bring are:

  • Sunscreen (lotion, not oil, on a boat)
  • T-shirts
  • Shorts
  • Swimsuit
  • Oversized beach towel
  • Sunglasses (Costas are a favorite when on water)
  • Sun visor or hat
  • Long t-shirt or light cover-up for over your swimsuit for sunburn
  • Summerweight clothing for going out at night, if you choose
  • Pants
  • Skirts
  • Sundresses
  • Tops

PACKING FOR DRESS CODE

The Bahamas are very casual and tropical!  Some finer establishments require jackets for the men, so use common sense when planning your “dining out attire,” and don’t wear blue jeans, should you choose to to go nicer restaurants.

Chefs on yacht charter boats are amazing. You may always want to dine and stay onboard and not even worry about bringing dressy casual clothing!

Most charter guests are barefoot for the majority of their vacation time onboard, but if you choose to wear shoes, pack and wear soft-soled shoes without black soles (that can scuff the deck) for above deck.

CAUTION, SUN WORSHIPPERS

You don’t want to get sunburned on day 1 of your trip, then spend the rest of your vacation in pain or peeling.  Don’t forget to pack a protective sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, oversized beach towel (not supplied by most yachts), and anything that you like to wear or have with you when spending time on the beach.  If you DO get sunburned, you’ll want to have aloe or burn cream with you (it’s expensive in the islands, and some primitive islands don’t not sell it at all) for protection.

CREW GRATUITY

To leave a gratuity for the crew at the end of your charter, most charter guests pack and bring an envelope to put on the Captain’s navigation station upon disembarking. (Customary gratuity for the crew is 10-15% of your yacht charter fee)

HOW TO PACK SUMMARY

Bottom line – do not worry about what you pack for your vacation.  Rule of thumb is that you only use half of what you pack, anyway, so you’ll surely have enough with you.  Soft-sided luggage is the key to convenient storage on Bahama yacht charters. If there is anything else that you need on your trip, you can surely get it during your charter.

Sail boat charters in the Bahamas are relaxing, casual, and stress-free.  (Remember, STRESSED is DESSERTS spelled backwards.  Since you are enjoying the total opposite of “stress” on this vacation, enjoy all of the gourmet desserts that you can!) Boat chefs are amazing!
