CHARTER RATE
With accommodations for 10 to 11 guests, Trinity built yacht ANJILIS is available for hire at $235,000 per week, plus running expenses.
A well known owner of a Mediterranean yacht charter vessel charges nearly €100,000 per week. In specific, to rent his yacht. His day job brings him vast sums of money, however.
Actor Johnny Depp is the owner of the 156′ motor yacht VAJOLIROJA. Depp opens up about his staggering paychecks. In specific, in the November issue of Vanity Fair magazine.
“Basically, if they’re going to pay me the stupid money right now, I’m going to take it,” he admits in the magazine article. “I have to. I mean, it’s not for me. Do you know what I mean? At this point, it’s for my kids. It’s ridiculous, yeah, yeah. But ultimately is it for me? No. No. It’s for the kids.”
Depp shot to the top of the list of Hollywood’s highest paid actors. This is thanks to the stellar success of Disney‘s Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise. Depp is mum on the size of his Pirates “ransom.” A recent report puts his total take in the $300 million range. This is due to a gross-profit-sharing deal brokered with Disney. To date, the four-film franchise has tallied $3.7 billion in worldwide receipts. Depp to star in a 5th installment.
Johnny Depp yacht, ValJoLiRoJa
It’s believed Depp’s passion for the sea, and his purchase of a mega yacht charter vessel stems from his years of filming the Pirates movies in exotic locales such as the Bahamas. His yacht, motor yacht VaJoLiRoJa — the boat’s clever name comes from combining the first few letters of each family member’s name, partner Vanessa Paradis, Johnny, and their kids, Lily-Rose and Jack — is a 156 foot yacht of distinctive character, inspired by the classic gentleman’s yachts of the 1930’s.
The lavishly-styled interior evokes the romance and glamour of a bygone era (with a few pirate-themed hints throughout).
Relive the Golden Era of yachting on board a classic yacht this winter. Depp’s yacht VAJOLIROJA is available for hire in the Bahamas or St Martin. It joins another classic-style Caribbean charter yacht, sail yacht GERMANIA NOVA.
There are many production 100-foot motoryachts in the Bahamas yacht charters market, but owners Dr. and Mrs. Emmons of luxury charter yacht SEAFARER didn’t want a cookie-cutter boat, particularly one costing $6 million. They wanted something that they could personalize to reflect their taste, their love of literature and the arts.
As a result, you will see throughout the boat bookcases built specifically for the Emmons, and nooks created especially to fit their fine collection of marine artwork.
Luxury charter yacht SEAFARER motor yacht is a 30-meter megayacht available for a Bahamas yacht charter vacation. Yacht SEAFARER has accommodations for eight (8) guests in four (4) cabins. This new mega yacht was built by superyacht builder Hargrave and was launched in 2008.
Bahama yacht charters are all about outdoor adventure in the sun, so a large inventory of waytertoys are important. This mega yacht charter vessel carries a 15′ widebody Nautica tender with 90hp Yamaha engine, two 2-person kayaks, snorkel gear, towable toys and tubes such as Boogie Boards, plus beach toys such as volley ball, Frisbees, and 4 bicycles.
You, your family, and friends can enjoy a week-long odyssey in the Bahamas onboard this yacht for only $42,500 for 8 guests. Running expenses (items such as food, fuel, and dockage) are extra. For more information, contact Jana Sheeder, CEO of 1-800-YACHTCHARTERS at jsheeder@1800yachtcharters.com

The success of a mega yacht charter, indeed the entire yacht charter season of a superyacht, depends on one thing. Specifically, the ability of the vessel’s crew to meet the needs of the paying customers. The best cruising grounds and good weather matter little. Especially if the megayacht charter crew does not provide excellent service.
CLIENT AND OWNER TREATMENT
A luxury yacht charter client should be treated the same as you would treat the owner. The only difference is that the crew knows the preferences of an owner (e.g. his or her favorite restaurants, the time he or she likes to wake up in the morning, etc.). The crew does not know these preferences for a new mega yacht charter client.
This provides the crew with a challenge – to ensure that they learn as quickly as possible what the client expects to gain from the Mediterranean yacht charter experience.
THE RECIPE
It all comes down to this – the happiness of the lead charterer and his family and guests hinges on the effort expended by the staff of the superyacht, especially the Chief Stewardess and the Chef.
A good skipper will introduce the stewardess and chef to the lead charter client early on in the charter. This way, the stew can get a feeling of the level of service or distance expected by the customer, and the chef can get a sense of the level or formality needed with each meal presentation.
CAPTAIN YES
Whether a Mediterranean yacht charter or a Caribbean yacht charter, the captain’s role is challenging. He is legally bound to ensure the safety of the guests and crew and he has a priority to ensure that the owner’s property is safeguarded. At the same time, he has to keep the charter guests happy while they are on board, since the paying guests have a significant degree of freedom to decide the nature of the charter.
It is a delicate balancing act to ensure the clients’ demands do not compromise the crew.
THE LAWS
The skipper must also comply with the laws of the territorial waters through which the superyacht passes, with particular importance placed on drug restrictions. The captain must impose his authority in the event of discovering the use of recreational drugs. In all superyacht cruising areas, this is illegal. The captain is potentially liable for any breach of the laws. Additionally, in many jurisdictions, the discovery of recreational drugs on board can result in the confiscation of the vessel by the local authorities.
ESSENTIAL POINT
It is essential that the captain ensures that all charter guests (and crew) obey these laws. Should there be an issue with this, the captain may need to refer to the owner/broker to agree on termination of a specific charter. Charter agreements provide the captain with full authority to prohibit the use of recreational drugs by the charter guests.
THE ROLE OF THE CHARTER BROKER
A seasoned yacht charter broker understands this delicate balancing act faced by a charter captain and crew. If the broker has previously handled a particular client on another vessel, he or she will discuss the characteristics of the client with the new captain, as well as the chef and stewardess.
WHAT DOES A YACHT CHARTER BROKER DO?
Brokers also try to gather as much personal information about the charterer by means of a preference sheet. On such forms, the clients can spell out their food and beverage likes and dislikes as well as the recreational pursuits they hope to enjoy during the trip (shopping, swimming, quietly reading a good book, etc.). Such preference sheets help give the crew a deeper understanding of the charter guests desires and expectations.
At the conclusion of the luxury mega yacht charter vacation, it is equally important for the crew and broker to discuss the trip.
“We ensure that all goes well during a charter, then we follow up after the charter to make sure that all details were perfect for the clients. Personalized and prompt customer service is critical to us. Our clients depend on our having everything organized before, during, and after their superyacht experience as they live their own lives. There is no second guessing in our service. It’s critical to us to make sure that everything was perfect so that we know for their repeat charters. There is no excuse for not providing perfect service to discriminating clientele;” thus, the feedback of the captain and senior crew enables the broker to build up a comprehensive picture of the client’s preferences for future engagements.
IN A NUTSHELL
The captain, crew, broker and customer work together. It is a perfect combination. The odds are quite high for a successful and memorable holiday at sea. That is The Superyacht Experience™ – created by 1-800 Yacht Charters.
Life in the oceans is at “imminent risk of the worst spate of extinctions in millions of years due to threats such as climate change and over-fishing.” It goes on to say, “We now face losing marine species and entire marine ecosystems, such as coral reefs, within a single generation.”
THE WRITTEN REPORT
The report by twenty-seven (27) ocean experts is to be presented. Specifically to the United Nations in the coming weeks. This is in the hopes of persuading governments to take action. Read a summary of the report at http://www.stateoftheocean.org/pdfs/1806_IPSOshort.pdf.
“No matter how you are involved in the ocean, you need to take responsibility. For instance, if you are a yacht rental agent. In addition, the owner of a mega yacht charter vessel. Or subsequently, the crew onboard a superyacht. You have a stake in what is happening to our oceans, “ says Sheeder.
“Part of what appeals to people who rent a private yacht is the chance to interact with nature. To swim among the creatures of the sea and to witness the rainbow of colors of a living coral reef. When you see a report like this, you realize just how at-risk our reefs really are.”
CONSEQUENCES OF INACTION
Sadly, the report paints a grim picture. “Unless action is taken now. [snip] The consequences of our activities are at a high risk. [snip] Of causing, through the combined effects of climate change. [snip] Over-exploitation, pollution and habitat loss. The next globally significant extinction event in the ocean,” it said.
The scientists list five mass extinctions over a 600 million year period. The extinction of dinosaurs 65 million years ago is the most recent.
THE FINDINGS
The findings may be shocking. However some solutions can be implemented almost immediately. Over-fishing,for example, is the easiest for governments to reverse. “Over-fishing is now estimated to account for over 60 percent of the known local and global extinction of marine fishes,” according to William Cheung of the University of East Anglia. “Unlike climate change, it can be directly, immediately and effectively tackled by policy change.”
Sheeder worries about the financial repercussions of an ailing ocean. “Everyone in our industry must accept our responsibility as stewardsof the seas, or we risk the end of our industry and our livelihoods.”
A client texted his post-charter comments after returning from a 10 night luxury sailing charter vacation. First, We responded and asked if everything went well. Being his third Perini Navi yacht charter in the islands, we also asked if anything out of the ordinary occurred.
“Gr8 charter…all wnt well.” he replied. “Nothing unusual but skiing.”
We texted, “A lot of peeps on H2O-skis?” His reply nearly knocked us out of our chairs, “LOL – SNOW skis!” (with snowskiing and thumbs up emojis)
SKIING ON YACHT
Waterskiing
It turns out, the most unusual ski adventure of the winter season wasn’t taking place in Vail, Deer Valley, or Steamboat. The unlikeliest of winter ski destinations this season is the Caribbean Sea, where dressing in layers of warm clothing will not be required, but sunscreen will be a must.
Snow skiing on a caribbean cruiseship
CUSTOM-BUILT SHIP
It’s all taking place aboard a custom-built cruise ship that boasts a tall slope and lift at its stern, a rental chalet, and après-ski bar.
Not to be outdone by the megayacht charter vessels known for their onboard amenities, the specialty cruise liner also boasts saunas and hot tubs.
CARIBBEAN – SNOW OR WATER SKIING TODAY?
White powder skiing purists may cringe at the fact the snow is not real and there is no wintry crispness to the air. But consider the bright side: deep blue skies, balmy temperatures every day, and a placid sea Caribbean sea with islands on the horizon.
SNOW SKIING ON DECK
Iglucruise, is the company offering this first-ever Caribbean ski excursion. A British-based travel company, the eight-day voyage departs from Barbados and includes stops at Tobago, Isla Margarita, St. Lucia, Grenada and St. Vincent.
BOAT SKI SLOPE
The ski slope is almost 500 feet long, built atop the upper deck to afford fantastic views of the tropics. The slope is covered with a Perma-Snow carpet, said to almost feel like real snow.
The company’s website states they are, “proud to announce the launch of their first cruiseship, a ground-breaking new ship to combine the passions of their loyal customers; skiing and cruising.”
Expect for long lines at the lift, as the ship can carry 1,129 passengers.
News of this crazy adventure is spreading fast, and from comments by bloggers, the ski community isn’t quite sure how to react. One post read in part:
“I think it’s a stretch to actually call it skiing, then again, speaking to the uniqueness of this idea, what a trip it’s going to be for people to be linking turns on a cruise ship sailing across the famed waters of the Caribbean Sea. This is not a ski trip most of us would ever consider, then again name another time you’ve heard of such a trip being offered.”
Prices for the cruise start as low as $1,240/pp.
In conclusion, whatever activities you enjoy on a private yacht, the trip will be memorable and worth texting about!
Luxury mega yacht charter aficionados take heart. Yes, fewer vessels destined for the world’s charter market are being built. Those that are being built will be larger than ever before.
Megayachts Get Larger Every Year
Industry reports for January 2013 indicate there are a total of 692 yachts over 80 feet under construction worldwide. This is a 5.2% drop in the number of projects over the prior year, but the length and volume of the yachts has grown.
Currently there is more gross tonnage under construction since 2007. Builders report 14 projects are underway over 328 feet (100 meters), and a 44% increase in orders for yachts over 250 feet.
