People associate the name, Ed Dubois with luxury mega yacht charter vessels. This month, Dubois, one of the world’s leading yacht designers, launched his greatest project to date. He created a cancer fund for children.
DCCF
The Dubois Child Cancer Fund (DCCF) is created in conjunction with the charity, Sparks. European sports superstars created Sparks to fund medical research into childhood diseases.
DUBOIS YACHTS
We first profiled Dubois in May when a handful of the designers yachts swept the World Superyacht Awards. Some of the world’s largest yachts, specifically luxury sailing charter vessels like TWIZZLE, KOKOMO, and RED DRAGON. These yachts trace their pedigree to the studio of Dubois Naval Architects Ltd.
DCCF GOAL
The aim of the DCCF is to increase the survival rate for infants and young children with neuroblastoma. Researchers are optimistic this goal can be reached. They cite as proof the survival rate for childhood leukemia. It has increased over the last twenty years from 10% to 90%. Specifically due to increased funding. For Ed and his wife, Honor, the mission to find a cure for childhood cancer hits home.
“Most people who organize charitable donations have a good reason to do so,” explains Ed Dubois. “In our case, our second daughter, Minna, was diagnosed with the rare form of childhood cancer – neuroblastoma – in July 2005. Her chances of survival, statistically, were about 40%.”
MINNA DUBOIS, SURVIVOR
Six years after her initial diagnosis, doctors report Minna is doing well, as her chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments have been effective.
SPARKS
All funds raised go directly to Sparks. They will fund specific projects in the area of childhood cancer research. This was agreed upon by Ed and Honor Dubois.
