Property Industry Foundation charity sailing event
Here’s a quick shout-out. this is directed to our bareboat and mega yacht charter comrades Down Under.
A very successful event this year. More than $80,000 for homeless children. This was done by the members of the Royal Brighton Yacht Club. It was the second annual Property Industry Foundation Charity Sailing Challenge.
Thirty-five yachts both participated. They are from the private sector and the charter industry. The boats set out on the bay in Melbourne to participate in the event. It brings together businesses from the real estate and construction industries.
Funds raised from the March 30 event always have a specific use. For instance, they are hiring a youth worker for Open Family Australia this year. It is a homeless children’s advocacy group based in Wyndham.

Water Strider bug
The builders of today’s luxury yacht charter vessels use many materials. For instance, aluminum, Kevlar, and plastic resins make lightweight and fuel-efficient boats.
That all may change – thanks to a bug…
Aerogels are among the lightest solid materials in existence. Created by replacing the liquid component of a gel with a gas, aerogels are extremely low in density, and hence, fairly buoyant. Now scientists have created a new aerogel, inspired by the feet of an insect – the tiny “water strider.”
The new aerogel is so buoyant, a yacht made from one pound (454 grams) of it could carry about 1,000 pounds (454 kg) of cargo.
Created by a team of professors and scientists at the Helsinki University of Technology, the new aerogel contains tiny fibers – nano-fibrils – derived from cellulose in plants. These fibers allow the aerogel to float by using the same physics principles evidenced by the water strider’s long, skinny feet. The water strider’s feet are covered in tiny hairs that trap air, and each air bubble helps distribute the insect’s weight across the water, keeping it from breaking the surface tension.
In addition to commercial boat-building aspects, the bug-inspired aerogel could find use in environmental pollution sensors, children’s water toys, and beach floats. Even more promising is the potential application in environmental protection. It seems the gel is able to absorb large amounts of oil – making it well-suited for oil spill cleanups.

Delta Marine, a US-based shipbuilder, has announced the launch of its latest custom superyacht, motor yacht ARIANNA. Designed and engineered by the Delta Design Group, motor yacht ARIANNA is said to be the world’s largest all composite 50 meter full-displacement motoryacht.Launched in April 2012, M/Y ARIANNA, formerly Project 164041, has more than 780 gross tons ITC, a beam of nearly 34 feet, and over 7,500 square feet of living area, giving her more interior volume than any other yacht her length.
The Delta Design Group was commissioned by the yacht owner to create a Polynesian-inspired interior that is elegant, comfortable, and suitable for a family at home on the seas. The interior design is adorned with tropical hardwoods including Mascassar ebony, Wenge, and Koa. Balinese inspired touches such as a solid slab dining table and colorful blown glass lighting complete the design elements. Other unique details include inlaid silk carpets, organic fabrics, woven leather, and natural stone.
One design element worthy of mention is the large master stateroom on the upper deck. This cabin features a lounge as well as a private outdoor deck and dining area. Forward on the main deck, where the master stateroom is traditionally located, is a fully-equipped gym with a sauna, and a private office.
Per 1-800 Yacht Charters President, Jana Sheeder:
It is exciting to welcome another Mediterranean yacht charter vessel into our fleet. Her blown glass lighting, organic fabrics throughout, and sauna are special touches for a spectacular superyacht.
Roomy external seating areas are perfect for all’aperto dining or lounging in the sun. There is a large aft seating area on the main deck and the sun deck features a bathroom, hot tub, sun chairs, and a large island-style bar. Guests can escape the sun under a lightweight carbon fiber bimini cover.
An elevator provides access to all four decks.
